Update to Atlantia’s COVID Policy

Friends, Shirefolk, and all associated guests,

As of Monday, May 23rd, 2022, The Shire of Roxbury Mill will be requiring a well-fitted mask to be worn (i.e. over both mouth and nose) at all indoor Official Events and Activities. This is in keeping with new Atlantian Kingdom Policy, published today, Sunday, May 22nd, as well as local guidance from the Montgomery County Government on their “COVID-19 Tracker”

“Official Events and Activities” are defined as any activity advertised on the Facebook page or e-list by members or officers of the Branch.

Masks are not required at outdoor events, though they may be required under dayshades and at court. It is recommended that you have a mask with you at any outdoor events.

The first upcoming activity to require masks will be Wednesday’s practice at Tikvat Israel Congregation — please bring a mask, though we will have some available as well.

Please see the official announcement and explanation of the new guidance here: https://atlantia.sca.org/covid-policy-update/

Don’t hesitate to email or PM our Seneschal, Ishmael Stedfast Reed, with any questions.

Please note that all in-person activities are cancelled at the moment. Atlantia will reassess on February 4th, and the Shire will follow guidance from Kingdom regarding activities at that time. Check our Facebook page to stay up to date with any changes.

Activities for February are as follows:

  • Wed. 2/2 – The Great Fire, parts 1 & 2. The first two parts of a three-part documentary on The Great Fire of London. Many thanks to Bran Mydwynter for the suggestion!
  • Sun 2/6 – Winter Uni Confab (6 – 7 pm). An after University virtual get together to discuss which classes everyone took and what we all learned.
  • Wed 2/9 – The Great Fire, part 3. The last part of the three-part documentary.
  • Wed 2/16 – Elements of Byzantium. The amazingly talented Bran Mydwynter is again treating us to his new manuscript class. If you have not yet been to one of Bran’s classes, you are truly missing out. I promise that you will learn stuff and look at manuscripts in a whole new way.
  • Wed 2/23 – Shire Bardic Madness. A bardic event with three challenges: (1) Limericks; (2) Roxstars!; and (3) Period FakeOuts. Despite the Shire themes, all are welcome to join!
    • Challenge 1 will begin with brief instruction from Lady Ela on drafting the BESTEST limericks. This part is very new person friendly! And you can write it on the spot.
    • Challenge 2 is a chance to show your Shire pride.
    • Challenge 3, pieces that sound period but are not or that begin in period style but something goes awry. Basically, it is a chance to be creatively anachronistic!

Except for the Great Fire documentary, all A&S activities will be held at the usual Shire link at https://meet.google.com/vwn-gvet-pgo
