January Arts & Sciences activities

January 7: Anthe will teach a class on spinning.

January 14: Not at Tikvat: Virtual class on Zoom! The Crane Herald of Atlantia, Iacobo, will give a virtual intro to court heraldry.

January 21: Learn about the history of etching in Europe from Aíbinn.

January 28: UPDATE: Due to the weather, we are having a virtual open A&S with discussion of Medievalism led by Bran Mydwynter. Check Facebook, Discord, or the mailing list for Zoom details.

December in-person populace meeting

Our monthly populace meeting will be held in-person on December 14 at the home of Lady Leonarda DelChiaro and Lady Helena Kassandreia in Rockville, with an option to attend virtually. Please contact them on Facebook, Discord, or at chatelain@roxburymill.atlantia.sca.org for their address.

Gathering to begin at 4:30 PM with a potluck dinner at 5 PM and the meeting to follow at 6 PM.

If you bring something for the potluck, please also bring a list of ingredients.

December Arts & Sciences activities

December 3: Helena Kassandreia will teach about displaying your A&S projects at events and entering Arts & Sciences competitions.

December 10: Intro to embroidery, part 2! Lanea will have hoops available if anyone needs supplies. If you’d like to see books on embroidery in a specific time or place, let Lanea know and she’ll see if she has something to bring.

December 17: Open A&S

December 24: No meeting; A&S and rapier practice canceled

December 31: No meeting; A&S and rapier practice canceled

September in-person populace meeting

Our quarterly in-person Shire meeting will be September 28 from 4:30–7 at Anthe and Theo’s house.

Social time and the potluck dinner will start at 4:30 with the meeting to follow at 6.

Please bring a dish to share labeled with all ingredients.

Ceramic pit firing demonstration

We’ll fire the pots we made at A&S at the Locust Grove Cabin Patio hearth on Sunday, September 28 between 8:30 AM–4:30 PM (weather willing!).

This is being done as a public demonstration and garb is welcome but not required. There are picnic tables with umbrellas on site. Stay as long as you’d like!

September and October Arts & Sciences activities

Note: We will not be at Tikvat beginning September 24 and going through October 15. Those evenings will either be virtual classes and activities or activities hosted at folks’ houses. For those evenings, we will share links to Zoom or Google Meet as we get closer. If the activity is at someone’s house, please use Facebook or Discord message the house for an address. If you are a newcomer, please contact our Chatelain for information.

September 10: Open Arts & Sciences with bonus mending and hand sewing help from Lanea. Let Lanea know if you need specific fabric scraps or threads to fix things!

September 17: Choosing fabrics for SCA costuming taught by Lanea. We will look at archaeological examples of surviving textiles and discuss how to replicate those items with commercially produced fabrics.

September 24: Not at Tikvat: Virtual class and activity! We’ll learn about Mesopotamia and Clara will teach us the Game of Ur.

October 1: Not at Tikvat: Class at Lanea’s and virtual. Baronesa Beatriz teaches about votive crowns.

October 8: Not at Tikvat: Class at Lucy’s. Cheese night!

October 15: Not at Tikvat: Class at Anthe’s. Anthe will host a class on making dumplings.

October 22: Kurdish Dance taught by Keylan.
