A&S 2/18

From our MoAS:
Greetings to the Shire!

As the folks who were making chair covers have completed their covers (or nearly) as of last week. We will be starting on making scroll cases this Thursday (2/18) as Kingdom largess for Gulf Wars.

We have the supplies, (or rather, Jen Dostal will be bringing the supplies), we just need some extra hands to help cut fabric and cardboard, glue and assemble them into scroll cases.

As always, Thursday Arts &Sciences night is at Tikvat Israel Congregation (2200 Baltimore Road, Rockville, MD 20851) from 7-ish to 9 p.m.

Please note: Our site is HUUUUGE, so if scroll cases are not your thing, please feel free to come hang out, watch the fighting and fencing (2 lists! No Waiting!). We’d love to see your A&S work-in-progress.

A&S Jan 21

Ysabeau will be guiding folks through how to spiff up your camp, starting with making covers for modern-style camping chairs.
Bring your modern chair you want to cover on Thursday so it can be measured, and a notebook for sketching plans for covers. Sewing and no-sew options will be discussed.

December business meeting

The December business meeting has been postponed until January. With so many holidays packed in to December, the December business meeting has been postponed until January 3. Please join us January 3 in Olney, MD, as we do last minute preparations for Feast of Fools (January 16).

A&S Nov 19 2015

Our MoAS, Ysabeau will be teaching how to make 14th century style fabric buttons, so if you have garb that you want to make fabric buttons for, bring 1/4 yard of fabric, needle and sewing thread, and scissors/thread cutters. She will have spare practice fabric with her.

Sewing Circle, July 3 at the Sparks residence

Hello fellow Mill-ers!

Just a friendly reminder, this month’s sewing circle is set for July 3 at my house. email me if you need address and/or directions. Start time is noon to whenever, I have a serger and a sewing machine, but if someone could bring a second machine or serger, that may reduce sewing bottlenecks and be a big help.

Homebrew sampling will happen at some point during the day, and either grilling or pizza delivery depending on weather.

As the shire’s new MOAS, it was determined at the last business meeting that regular A&S activities on Thursday night with fight practice was a good thing. Thursday will be an open A&S night, so bring whatever projects you are working on. I am working on a list of topics for following weeks and will post them here and on the email list after the holiday.

If I don’t see you Thursday or Friday, have a happy holiday.

In service,

Julia Sparks

Storvik Performer’s Revel — April 18 2015, Bowie MD

Continuing a tradition whose origin is lost in the mists of time … on Saturday, April 18th, 2015, the ancient and venerable Performers’ Revel will take place in the vasty halls of Caer Bear. This is an event OF performers FOR performers BY performers! The call goes out to all musicians, singers, poets, dancers, actors, storytellers, jugglers and other practitioners of the performing arts. Novice performers are particularly encouraged. Are you perhaps learning a new art or skill? Are you perhaps reluctant to perform before a packed and noisy hall? Then this event is especially for you! By longstanding tradition, we have no audience – everyone who attends must contribute at least one performance. But fear not! The definition of “performance” is quite elastic. Give it a try!

PRACTICALITIES: By ancient custom, the revel will be held at the home of Baron Igor Bear and Baroness Fevronia Murometsa, 2204 Amber Meadows Drive, Bowie MD 20716. The site is wet (as long as you are 21 or older) and very cheap! The hall opens at 10am, performances usually start around noon and continue until the last vestiges of energy run out. The only fee is $12 to cover the feast – Baron Igor will conduct his traditional proof that cooking is indeed a performing art! [NOTE BENE: small children may find the need to sit quietly rather tedious, so parents may want to make appropriate childcare arrangements].

Site: 2204 Amber Meadows Drive, Bowie MD 20716.

Site Restrictions: Um …. Don’t be a turkey?

RESERVATIONS: Baroness Fevronia Murometsa (Kathleen Sobansky) 2204 Amber Meadows Drive, Bowie, MD 20716. Please note, this is a “Baronial Activity” rather than an official Kingdom Event.
