About Roxbury Mill

Please see the “Recurring Activities” page and the monthly A&S schedules for details on in-person and virtual activities.

Welcome to The Shire of Roxbury Mill, a branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) that encompasses most of Montgomery County, Maryland.

The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is an inclusive community pursuing research and re-creation of pre-seventeenth century skills, arts, combat and culture. The lives of participants are enriched as we gain knowledge of history through activities, demonstrations, and events.

We believe in “living history”: wearing the clothing, cooking (and eating!) the food, donning the armor, fighting with the weapons, playing the music, and displaying both honor and chivalry, rather than only reading about them in books.

The Known World of the SCA is divided into kingdoms which are further divided into Baronies, Cantons, Principalities, Shires, etc. Roxbury Mill is located in the Kingdom of Atlantia, which includes the mundane states of Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina, and a piece of Georgia.
